1. Introduction

At Good Send Off, we believe that trust and integrity are the foundation of serving families during life’s most sensitive moments.

Our Transparency & Ethics Policy explains how we operate, how we vet funeral homes, how we handle listing data and user contributions, and why we do things the way we do. We are committed to honest practices, clear information, and respect for both providers and families.

2. Our Commitment to Transparency

2.1 Funeral Home Verification

  • Entity: Funeral Home
  • Attribute: Verification
  • Value: Licensed, Reviewed, Transparent
    • Every funeral home listed on Good Send Off undergoes a verification process. We review licensing, service offerings, pricing structure, and public-facing documentation.
    • We also perform periodic checks to re-validate listings, ensuring contact details, services, and prices are up to date.
    • If a funeral provider fails to meet our standards, we may remove or flag their listing.

2.2 Pricing Transparency

  • Entity: Funeral Provider / Service Pricing
  • Attribute: Price Availability
  • Value: Clear, Accessible, Explained
    • We encourage providers to publish their General Price Lists (GPLs) directly on their listing page. While some providers may not currently list full pricing online, we require that they make it available on request.
    • Our directory clearly notes whether pricing is “Published,” “By Request,” or “Not Listed” so families know what to expect.
    • We provide educational resources (via our Guides) to help users understand funeral cost terminology and typical expense breakdowns.

3. Ethical Listing & Business Practices

3.1 Neutral Directory, No Undue Influence

  • Good Send Off is an independent directory. We do not favor funeral homes based on financial relationships.
  • While providers may pay to claim their listing or feature themselves, we ensure that paid listings do not compromise our verification standards.
  • All listings paid or not must pass our ethics checks to be live on the site.

3.2 Conflict of Interest Disclosure

  • We disclose if a funeral home is a major partner or if there is any special relationship, and we make sure these relationships are transparent to families.
  • Our business model does not allow for opaque “referral” fees that compromise a provider’s integrity.

3.3 User-Generated Content and Reviews

  • Entity: Review / Testimonial
  • Attribute: Authenticity
  • Value: Verified, Moderated, Transparent
    • All reviews and testimonials are submitted by real families. We ask for context (e.g., service used, location) to validate feedback.
    • We moderate submitted content to remove spam, abuse, or irrelevant content, but we do not selectively delete criticism. Negative feedback is part of trust.
    • Our review system is transparent users can report or flag inappropriate content.

4. Data Privacy & User Information

4.1 Information Collection

  • We collect the minimum personal data necessary to operate the platform: names, email addresses, location (when needed for directory functions), and optional data when users submit reviews or claim a listing.
  • We also use cookies and analytics tools to improve user experience, but we clearly disclose what is collected and why.

4.2 Data Use & Sharing

  • Your data is used to:
    • Manage your account and verify you (if claiming a listing or leaving a review)
    • Provide customer support
    • Communicate relevant service updates or platform changes
  • We do not sell personal data to third parties. Trusted partners (e.g., service providers, verification agents) may access limited data only for legitimate and disclosed business purposes.

4.3 Data Protection & Retention

  • We store your information securely, following best practices for data protection and encryption.
  • We retain user data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law.

5. Legal & Regulatory Compliance

5.1 Funeral Rule & Pricing Regulation

  • We are informed by the FTC’s Funeral Rule, which requires funeral homes to provide a General Price List upon request.
  • We encourage transparency beyond regulatory minimums by promoting public pricing where providers consent.

5.2 Ethical Pricing Advocacy

  • We advocate for clear, consumer-friendly price disclosures, recognizing that many families find funeral cost lists confusing or buried.
  • When possible, we ask providers to use plain language in price lists, explaining common terms like “basic services fee,” “transfer of remains,” and “casket handling.”

6. Accountability & Feedback

6.1 Reporting Concerns

  • If you believe a funeral home listing is misleading, has outdated or incorrect pricing, or does not respect our ethics policy, you can report it to us.
  • We investigate all reports within a reasonable timeframe, and if a violation is confirmed, we may publicly flag or remove the listing.

6.2 Policy Updates

  • We regularly review and update our Transparency & Ethics Policy to reflect changes in industry standards, user expectations, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Significant changes will be posted here, and we may notify registered users via email.

7. Why This Matters — Our Ethical Philosophy

At Good Send Off, we hold ourselves to more than just business standards we aim to be a trusted companion for families navigating grief.

  • We believe transparency empowers choice, especially when people are vulnerable and decision-fatigued.
  • We believe ethical funeral service helps rebuild trust in an industry that historically lacks price clarity and consumer-friendly practices.
  • By placing integrity above profit, we hope to elevate how funeral providers present their services—and how families make one of life’s hardest decisions.
